  • Yelp is filled with an overwhelming amount of fake anonymous reviews.  It's disappointing when we must publicly post how they treat businesses behind the scenes in hopes that they will be forced to take action and remove some of the most obvious malicious reviews.  Users can create multiple usernames to post fake reviews, like this one below in the screenshot.  The problem is Yelp profit's off the quantity of reviews, not the accuracy of reviews.  The accuracy is not relevant to it's "growth" when they pitch their business to investors. Quantity is what they promote to investors on their quarterly earnings reports.

Be wary of online reviews these days.  Our internal data suggests that the trend of deceptive reviews is growing dramatically when the shield of anonymity is intact.  However, if you attach a person's real full name to the review, it dramatically decreases the chances of malicious intent.
